Yesterday, I went to an school to attend republic day celebrations. It was a great program and I enjoyed it a lot. But only one thing that hurt me was the pronunciation of some “Hindi” language words in English. It is okay that we are teaching students everything in English. But there are some noun words which must remain unchanged in any language.
For example – the word “Yog”, is referred as “Yoga”, which is incorrect. Similarly some south Indian state names are also wrongly pronounced with an additional “AA” at the end. Like “Keral” becomes “Kerala”, Karnatak becomes “Karnataka” etc.
I feel bad that these things are happening with the language. I expect at least schools to teach correct pronunciation of Hindi words, so that the students can learn the right thing. I can understand that we do not want a student to learn Hindi, as it does not have any commercial value in today’s globalĀ market. But we should try to preserve, what we are taking forward for next generations.
