I am among the little late watchers of the movie – “My Name is Khan“. Yes, now some of the theaters are finding it hard to get audience to run the show. I went in the SRS Cinemas, Wedding Mall, Sohna Road, Gurgaon. It was Monday afternoon show and you would not believe there were almost 12 people sitting in the theater including children.
The movie is good and very engaging but what it lacks is the Entertainment value. It sticks to its line so strictly that a common audience may find it difficult to enjoy. I think it was filmed keeping in mind the western audiences – from where it picked up its subject. The subject itself is very noble and asks everyone to think about the boundaries that we have created ourselves between humans. The boundary of religion.
As the lead character Rizwan Khan (played by Shahrukh Khan), keeps saying that – “There are only two kind of people in this world. Either Good or Bad. There is no other difference between two people.”
The subject also has a balance while taking sides of specific group. While it blames western countries for treating each Muslim as terrorist, it also shows the – religious Muslims leaders, who motivate them to fight in the name of god, which eventually creates more hatred for them. On one hand it shows the Christians only relief program for drought hit Africa, and on the other hand it shows Muslim religious leaders misinterpreting the holy Kuran to mislead the Muslim youth in the name of “Allah”.
If we leave that core of the story aside – then we have the character of Rizwan, which has a rare disease known as “Autism“, behaves like a child and Shahrukh Khan leaves no stone unturned to make you believe that yes he is the Rizwan Khan, not the super star SRK, as we all know him. Rizwan lives by the teaching of his mother and is an honest, innocent, sincere, lovable and very intelligent.
When FBI agents were investigating Rizwan for his suspected links with terrorists – Osama in specific. He writes to his wife that – “They (FBI) are asking me to tell them about Osama and are angry with me as I do not know anything about him. If I would have imagined that they would ask about Osama then I should have read about him.”
And I can not forget about Kajol, I am her great admirer and I believe that she is the best actress at present in Hindi film industry. While today’s actresses are busy in making their body, looking beautiful and sexy. They should also try to do some acting. Kajol makes a mark in every scene she is in, when ever Kajol is there on screen the screen gets energized.
While watching the movie, if you would not know that this is directed by Karan Johar, you would never believe that it is a Karan Johar movie. He has come a long way since “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai”. It is the first time that Karan has made a movie without drama, plush sets, loud Punjabi music and colorful dresses. I felt too good to get a different movie from a great director we have.
I wish if every person in this world becomes like Rizwan, we will have a much better world as we have now.
