Is melody returning to bollywood songs?

Since last many years, I have found that the music in Indian movies, is becoming louder and louder. There are lot of instruments going simultaneously to create beats and make people dance.  Although most of us like the music first time – but it is not remembered for a long time.

Most of the time I had to switch off the FM radio and go to my CDs of Dil to Pagal hai or DDLJ. What they(FM Channels) refer to as “aaj ka music”  is not actually music, just background voice of “Hard Kaur” and some foreign singers. Most of us do not understand what are the lyrics, who cares about the meaning.

But now since last few months I am getting a feeling that there are few people, who are still making great music with great lyrics. Be it song from Kaminey – ‘Pehli baar Mohabbat ki hai’ or “To jaane na” from “Azab Prem ki Gazab Kahani” OR “Dooriyan” from “Love Aajkal” they are all meaningful and melodious songs. And recent music releases of “Ishqiya”, “Veer” and “My Name is Khan” suggest that they are being popular due to their simplicity.

The song “Dil to Bachcha hai” from “Ishqiya” has already received a lot of appraisal from my friends and me of-course. “Sureeli Ankhiyon wale” and “Salaam Aaya” from “Veer” are great songs with lyrics and great music, which is also good to ears.

I always had a thought in mind that the music keeps changing every 10 years in Indian films, you may remember a lot of songs from 1970s but not that many from 1960s. Again you may remember a lot of songs from 1990s but not that many from 1980s.

Similarly according to the same cycle it seems that time for good music and meaningful songs is back again. And this is just the beginning…
